Research & Development: Tuning

The introduction of Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) was a giant leap in engine technology that allowed car manufacturers to produce more efficient engines. Since EFI cars required an engine management system known as the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to control the show, this opened the door to a whole new industry in the automotive world. Most cars that came out of the factory would usually be tuned (or mapped) rather conservatively so that it would last a lifetime. However, this meant that there was much more potential in completely standard cars, let alone modifying them then re-mapping the ECU.

"It's not just about a final power figure. It is results that you can FEEL when you drive!"

Every ECU is different with many variables that need to be taken into account so it takes time to tune an engine perfectly. Most tuners spend most of their time focusing on the final power figure by adjusting air-to-fuel ratios (AFR) through fuel injection and ignition timing maps only, meaning that less time is spent on other important variables that need to be monitored and fine tuned. As a result, I have taken this method of tuning and refined it further so that not only does the engine run efficiently, it also runs smoothly and produces results safely. It's not just about a final power figure. It is results that you can FEEL when you drive!
